Rule 4: Emotional Respone
The gift should trigger the right emotional response. If you get your wife a vacuum for your anniversary I foresee trouble! Get something appropriate to the occasion
Rule 3: Unique-The Story
One of our bosses goals was to make each of his employees a Millionaire. To commemorate this he gave each employee a gift, a limited edtion "Million" dollar bill. It was such a unique gift, I still carry it in my wallet up until this day! A perfect example of a unique gift with a story!
Rule 3: Unique
Not only should the gift be personal, but if the gift is Unique, it makes the gift even more memorable. And that is at the heart of what you are trying to do, make the gift special and memorable. Think outside the box!
Rule 2: Timeliness
Rule 2: Give the gift in a timely manner. Giving someone a gift long after the event, is a no no. Show you value the person by giving the gift in a timely fashion.
Rule 1: Personal-A Story
In late 2004 and early 2005 my wife and I did our Pilgrimage to Makkah. As part of our trip we went to the Prophet's(PBUH) masjid in Madinah. To honor the trip I purchased a land deed in Madinah from Earthclaim. So I am now the 'owner' of strip of land the Masjid resides on in "Earth2." It was a novel way that really personalized the trip for my wife!
Rule 1: Personal
The first rule: a gift has to be personal. Put some thought into it! Don't give the same generic gift to everyone. Get something specifically for that person. The result a gift that is memorable.
